1993-1994


Fellowship at the Fondazione Tera. Design of a compact proton synchrotron for cancer therapy.

Scientific visitor at the Budker Institute for Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk (Russia), for six months.

1994-1997


PhD in Physics at the Physics Faculty of the University of Bologna. Thesis on Nonlinear beam dynamics in large hadronic colliders. Supervisors Dr. W. Scandale (CERN) and Prof. G. Turchetti (University of Bologna).

Doctoral Student at CERN from 1995 to 1998 in the SPS-LEP (SL) Division and in the Main Magnets and Superconductors (MMS) Division.

Post-doc fellowship at the Physics Laboratory of the Istituto Superiore di Sanita', Rome, Italy. Proton linear accelerator for cancer therapy.

Post-doc at the ENEA, Centro Ricerche Frascati. Free Electron Lasers on storage rings. Beam dynamics and instabilities. High gain FELs (SPARC).

Diamond Light Source, Ltd. Appointed Head of the Accelerator Physics Group in May 2005. Acting Head since November 2004.
